Hemp Seed, Carp On The Pole & Paste

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Hello Bob,

I am going in a match soon on the New Juction Canal what is the best way to fish it. If there are roach about do you always feed hemp seed to keep the better ones.

Thanks,

Ann

Hello Ann,

Hemp seed can be good, but it is not always a match bait. It is very difficult to fish and you need to be very confident in what you are doing. A much safer method is to fish for roach and perch with small balls of groundbait and squatts at 8 metres. also loose feed past this line with large maggots for eels and big roach.

Hello Bob,

What's the best way to play carp on the pole?

Thanks,

Terry

Hello Terry,

Carp on the pole can be difficult to play, particularly if they are large. Make sure your elastic is the right size , a number 12 or 14 should be correct ,and offer you some control over large fish. Make sure your sections are tight , when you hook a fish point your pole directly at the carp and in the direction that it is going, this will enable the maximum amount of elastic to come out of the pole, and gradually slow the fish down. When the first run has finished you can then apply pressure by lifting the pole in the opposite direction , until you have sufficiently tired the fish and it is ready for netting.

Hi Bob,

I'm fishing a tench water 3-4ft deep with lots of blanket weed on the bottom, the problem I'm having is I'm fishing paste made from Swim Stim eggs and flour which stays on the hook brilliantly, but, the bites I'm getting are really savage but I can't hit them, empty hook but no fish.
I've tried fishing overdepth and so that the paste is just touching the bottom but the results are just the same........HELP.

Thanks,

Rob the clampit

Hello Rob,

It sounds like your paste is not soft enough, this is usually the cause of missed bites. It should be so soft that it only just stays on the hook. Van Den Eynde Hydropaste is very good. Try it and you will be a clampit no more.

Good Fishing,
