2006 Disabilities Trust Carp Challenge Nets £2000 for Charity |
|
![]() The fishing was far from easy for all as the lakes had not been fishing well for several months due to the harsh winter but the anglers arrived in buoyant moods keen to fish and raise money for the Trust. The first fish came at 11.30pm on the Friday night from Kingfisher. A 21lb common for Darren Hodder in peg 26 fishing tight to snags. That turned out to be the only carp caught from kingfisher during the weekend. Mallards first fish didn't put in an appearance until later that night. A 20lb 2oz catfish fell to the rods of Tommy Davis in peg 7. This was to be the only fish of the night on mallard until first light when Dave Baker in peg 1 hooked into a nice mirror just 5 minutes after casting out. The fish weighed 19lb 7oz and put Dave and Rich into 2nd place. ![]() Dave with his 19lb 7oz mirror Heron then had a bit of action with the biggest carp of the weekend falling to Dave Ware in peg 41. The common weighed in at 25lb and was in mint condition. Dave was fishing over a baited area at close range by some reed storks. Mallard began to come on during Saturday night into Sunday. Dan Eseery had a massive 39lb 4oz cat, caught from peg 16 on a live roach. Dan fished on float gear positioning the bait around 2 ft from the surface. Dan's Cat was the largest fish caught over the weekend and netted him the prize for the biggest fish, a cool bag donated by JRC. ![]() Dan's 39lb cat Into Sunday morning and Dave landed another carp, this time a 16lb koi, putting them right back into contention. Neil Young had a 14lb common, and then Rich hooked into a monster moggie. After a 25 min scrap the cat unfortunately woke up and dumped Rich into a snag, leaving him rather deflated. It was starting to look like Dan and Rob in the double swim were going to take it by a few pounds, until peg 7 and 8 came alive. Tommy and Justin changed tactics and went after the cats with popped up worm. The warm wind was blowing right into their corner and the cats followed. Tommy and Justin landed and lost a string of cats to win the comp by a clear margin. Tommy even banked a 34lb cat after the bell for good measure. ![]() Justin with one of the cats that gave them the win Mallard winners: 1st place Tommy Davis and Justin Holness peg 7 8 2nd Place Dan Essery and Rob Gubby peg 16 17 3rd Place Dave Baker and Rich Salvidge peg 1 3 4th Place Neil Young and Ian Darke peg 13 15 5th Place Brian Laridge and Ian Welsh peg 18 20 6th Place Neil Hibbert and Russell Farr peg 11 12 Kingfisher Winner: Darren Hodder peg 26, Heron Winner: Dave Ware peg 41 ![]()
