DCP sponsored Anglers with Disabilities National Championship

Woodland View Fishery in Worcestershire hosted this year’s National Championship for Anglers with Disabilities and this prolific venue lived up to its reputation by producing a string of good weights and an extremely tight finish in both the team and individual categories.

With temperatures in the mid-twenties and little wind the competitors were clearly apprehensive about how this would effect the fishing. The weather also brought the carp up in the water where they were simply cruising and not really feeding. However, those who worked it out, went on to record some good scores.

Individual Champion was Billy Wilson, fishing for the East Midlands Region. He drew peg 6 in K section which put him on permanent peg 63 on Back Deans. With plenty of fish in his peg throughout the day Billy opted to fish at 6 metres alternating between pellet and corn hookbaits.
His weight of 31. 200 kilos included carp to over 5 kilos. He was genuinely amazed to have won the event.

Runner-up was venue- regular, Andy Williams, fishing for West Midlands Region Blue. Andy put a cracking 29.650 kilos of mainly carp to 4kilos on the scales from G5 ( Front Deans 30) again caught mainly short. In third place was Mark Giles, West Midlands Red, who put together 25.600 kilos on peg K1 (Back Deans 55).

In the team competition East Midlands Region took top spot with the narrowest of margins – 1 point! The ten man team accumulated 46 points, including three section winners, just edging out the two West Midlands teams who tied on 45 points. West Midlands Blue actually had 4 section winners and returned a fractionally bigger weight than the winners.

Nick Atkinson, director of the sponsors DCP, presented all the medals, clothing and other mementoes to the principal winners who also receive in total some £3500 in prize money. He said of the event and the anglers taking part "The quality of the competition together wit the tight result demonstrated that these anglers are up there with the best in the UK."

He added "Chris Dulley, Owner and Managing Director DCP, is a keen angler and feels it is very important that events such as this, for disabled people, are suppoted because corporate sponsors tend to support higher profile able bodied events."
