News release from the Angling Trust

Angling Trust Veterans National Championship took place at one of the UK’s leading coarse fisheries, Hallcroft Fishery, Retford, Notts on Wednesday 4th August.

Robert Stevens from Challeston, Derby became the Angling Trust Veterans National Champion with a weight of 27.260kg of mixed carp and silver fish. Robert who works for Nathans of Derby, a specialist fishing tackle shop fished Reed pool 16. Robert’s tactics were to fish pole and paste and then feeder over to the island with pellet. Robert said “it has not been easy to fish today as I caught some fish then nothing at all for a while, and unfortunately a lot of the anglers have been the same”. As well as taking the title of 2010 Angling Trust Veterans Champion Robert took home another medal on the day by winning his section. In runner up position was David Ludlam from Rotherham on Canal pool 1 with another good weight of 21.600kg. In bronze medal position was Barry Ryley of Romford with 21.300kg on Reed pool 29.

Conditions on the day were difficult with heavy rain setting in first thing, but it stayed dry after midday until after the match. Reed and Canal pools dominated the Championship with eight of the top ten place weights coming of those pools.

Next year’s Angling Trust Veterans National Championship will be on Wednesday 3rd August at Partridge Lakes, Culcheth, Warrington.

Angling Trust would like to thank Terry Sears and all his staff at Hallcroft Fisheries for their use of water and their support and help on the day.
