News release from the Angling Trust

As a result of increased income from donations, subscriptions and funding from the Environment Agency, the Angling Trust is recruiting two new staff: a Membership Officer and a Regional Co-ordinator.  These new staff will help grow the influence and support of the representative body for all game, coarse and sea anglers.  The posts offer fantastic opportunities for keen anglers to build a career in angling working for the Angling Trust.

The Membership Officer (starting salary £14,000 pa + contributory pension) will join the Trust’s busy Leominster office in January 2012.  The principal tasks will be:

  • The recruitment and retention of members;
  • Attending trade and tackle shows, events and competitions;
  • Working closely with tackle manufacturers and retailers, fisheries and other angling businesses;
  • Responding to enquiries from members;
  • Publicising the Angling Trust’s activities and news.

The Regional Co-ordinator (starting salary circa £23,000 pa + contributory pension) will also join the Trust in January 2012, subject to Environment Agency funding being confirmed.  The principal tasks of this role will be:

  • Work with Regional Environment Agency staff to arrange regional forum meeting venues and refreshments;
  • Distribute notice of all regional forum meetings to Angling Trust membership, tackle shops, fisheries and angling media;
  • Liaise with Regional Chairmen and Secretaries to ensure regional agendas include national and regional consultations and Agency messages;
  • Collate feedback from regions to present to Freshwater Committee;
  • Liaise with Rivers Trusts to identify co-delivery opportunities;
  • Work with the Chair and Secretary of the Freshwater Committee to set agendas and disseminate national information to Regional Chairmen and Secretaries;
  • Disseminate byelaws and other key messages to membership and angling media;
  • Liaise with the Environment Agency about, and inform anglers of planned Flood & Coastal Erosion work.

The closing date for applications for both posts is

Angling Trust Chief Executive Mark Lloyd said: “These new posts will enable the Angling Trust to do more for its membership by improving communication between the staff and volunteers working for the Trust and the individual anglers, angling clubs, fisheries and other angling organisations who support our work.  Both jobs offer a great opportunity for keen anglers to build a career in angling and to help protect and promote the sport for the benefit of future generations.”
