There is a special chance for anglers to take a friend fishing for free at borwickfishing.co.uk. During September and October, 2008, vouchers are available which give a FREE permit to anyone accompanied by a paying visitor. As a special bonus the offer covers both £6 day-ticket and £16 24-hour ticket. Vouchers are available on site and from the website, www.borwickfishing.co.uk. Coupled with the FREE tackle loan which is already in place, for £5 returnable deposit and £2 bait and end tackle deal, this offers a unique chance to introduce a friend to angling at a time when catches are excellent.

At this time of year, the water is warm enough for the fish to be still feeding enthusiastically, and with natural food production in decline, they turn to anglers’ baits to fill the gap. Good catches of Carp are being made on Griffish, Dewhurst and Fingals and with a Summer’s growth added on the fish average 3lb, 5lb and 7lb respectively with double figure fish a regular occurrence on the last two.  The fun pools, Gatenby, Burn, The Last Blast and Little Brooker are producing Orfe, Golden Tench, Ghost Carp, Golden Rudd and Crucians for those who prefer variety. Slow sinking pellets, maggots, sweetcorn or bread all score well on all pools.

Liam_with_22lb_Common_203283882.jpgOne of the recurring problems on Jimmy’s Lake is getting modest bailiff, Jimmy, to say too much. Closer questioning about an “Okay” 3-day session revealed a double figure Carp on Day One, no less than 9 fish between 20lb and 24lb on Day Two and a pristine 27lb 14oz Common on Day Three which Jimmy recognised as one which had been hiding away since he caught at 26lb, way back in 2004 before stocking began. Fish pulling the scales down to 27lb or more in September should be over the 30lb mark next Spring, bringing the total to at least half a dozen known fish in this category now.

borwickfishing.co.uk had another visitor taking advantage of the free fishing offer in September. On the 19th, Jimmy spotted a huge gull-like bird diving into Little Brooker for a free meal. His binoculars identified it as a rare Osprey. It returned several times over the weekend, delighting anglers as it quartered the whole site with slow beats of its very long wings. It probably won’t stay too long as it was probably pausing on its long migration to Africa, but its likely to drop in again next spring and autumn.
