EFTTA promotes line testing project in Italy and publishes further line test results

EFTTA, the European Fishing Tackle Trade Association, has updated its listing of randomly tested monofilament lines online at www.eftta.com. Twice a year, EFTTA randomly buys monofilament samples from across the world and tests these samples in an independent laboratory on their diameter and breaking strength.

The results are then published in the international press, on the EFTTA website and at EFTTEX, the European Fishing Tackle Trade Exhibition, which this year will take place from 13-15^th June in Fiera di Roma, Rome.

Last month EFTTA promoted the line testing project at the FIPO 2008 fishing show in Bologna.  Janet Doyle of EFTTA comments “on our stand we had posters and banners listing the companies whose lines have already passed the EFTTA line test and have been awarded the EFTTA logo.  We received positive feedback from exhibitors and visitors participating at FIPO 2008 and hope this will encourage line companies to submit their lines for testing”

Manufacturers, wholesalers and retailers alike are always interested in receiving the new latest results of our testing rounds. It allows them to benchmark their products against competitors’ products and it guides retailers as to which monofilaments they should offer in their shops.

EFTTA already publishes the line test results in consumer magazines and sets up links with a wide range of European fishing websites. “The response and interest we receive is tremendous. People kept phoning in asking us what other lines we would be testing and they were particularly interested in receiving information on lines that passed the EFTTA approved logo”, Sally Steel of EFTTA comments. “It’s great to see that the consumer is finally being educated about the situation with wrong labelling on fishing lines. By checking out the EFTTA website they can make an educated choice of what line to purchase in the future.”

EFTTA introduced the line testing programme in 2004 and has since awarded EFTTA approved logos to more than 90 lines. These lines have been tested in laboratory controlled conditions and indicate the correct diameter and breaking strength on the packaging of their lines.
