Fishing Tasmania Expert Visits Farlows Of Pall Mall - News Release

‘Fishing Tasmania’ expert visits Farlows of Pall Mall & Sportfish Reading

5th & 7th November, 2009

 Everyone Welcome

Fishing Tasmania

If you love to fish, drop in to Farlows of Pall Mall on Thursday 5th November or Sportfish Reading on Saturday 7th November to find out about fishing in one of world’s least-known but most exquisite trout fishing destinations – Tasmania, Australia’s island state.

Richard Dax, chairman of Fishing Tasmania whose expertise in this wilderness icon is unrivalled, will be available throughout both days to fascinate, educate and answer questions about this unique wild brown trout fishery.  With Australia’s highest mountains, deepest lakes, and most pristine wild rivers, more than 40% of Tasmania is protected - yet it is one of the most accessible wildernesses in the world, with wide open roads and jaw-dropping scenery at every turn.

Tasmania is the island jewel of Australia, easily accessed by air from Melbourne or by ferry across the Bass Strait. As Australia’s premier trout fishery and the original source of the Southern Hemisphere’s wild brown trout, Tasmania is an island of contrasts - four seasons, stunning beaches, dense virgin rainforest, ever-changing scenery and unique and endemic wildlife with platypus, sea eagles and albatross sightings guaranteed.

The island is awash with free running rivers and still waters providing aspiring anglers with a myriad of accessible choices for all types of fishing. The glaciated Central Plateau or ‘land of 3000 lakes’ provides some of the world’s greatest wilderness fishing, whilst more easily accessed waters are abundant and freely available to anglers without cost or crowding.

Wild brown trout is Tasmania’s mainstay, but wild rainbows also thrive and there is wonderful estuary fishing for the hardy and sporty black bream.  Bluefin tuna, often in excess of 200lbs, are readily available in season.

Tasmania has a great range of world class guides and charter boat operators who can not only take you to the fish at any time of the year, but will also share their rich knowledge about the history, convict heritage and wilderness features of Tasmania.
