A new fishing guide to Aberdeenshire, produced by VisitScotland Aberdeen and Grampian and Aberdeenshire Council, is now available.

The twelve page A5 guide includes listings of rivers, burns, lochs, fisheries and sea fishing opportunities in Aberdeenshire, where to buy permits, listings of tackle shops as well as a small section on accommodation.  The guide will help to promote fishing opportunities in the area, making it easier for visiting and local anglers to access contact information.

Enthusiastic about the new guide, Provost Raymond Bisset said:   “As Provost of Aberdeenshire but also as someone involved in promoting tourism and as a keen angler, I am delighted to see this colourful guide which highlights the huge variety of fishing experiences available to visitors and locals in our North East corner.

“Fishing is one of the most popular sports world-wide and hopefully this will attract many visitors to our area and so stimulate the economy of the North East.  Its bright appearance and content will certainly be of interest to all those who participate in the use of ‘the rod and line'.”

Ian Dunlop, Area Director, VisitScotland Aberdeen & Grampian said, “The area's natural beauty and its wealth of lochs, rivers and the sea, place it in an ideal situation to attract visitors with an interest in fishing.

“There is something for every angler in this area from world famous stretches of the Rivers Dee and Don to sea angling from picturesque harbours around the coastline and this new guide brings them all together in one easy to use publication.”

Mark Bilsby, River Director for the Dee, is delighted with the publication of the new fishing guide which he says: “will welcome people to the wonderful and diverse nature of the fisheries in Aberdeenshire.

“The booklet will help to support the rural jobs and businesses throughout the area by attracting new anglers and their families to visit the area and to give locals the opportunity to find out about fishing on their doorstep for the first time.”

A report from the Scottish Executive puts the North East as the second highest revenue earning area in Scotland for fishing with fishing tourism in Scotland bringing in a total of £180 million to the economy.

The new guide will be distributed free of charge through Tourist Information Centres, postal, telephone and email requests for fishing information.  To request a copy please phone 01224 288828 or email Aberdeen.Information@visitscotland.com.
