Coming to cinemas soon.....

We recently received the following email from Andy at Trufflepig Films:

"The Lost World of Mr Hardy" is a documentary film about a lost world of fishing, featuring master fishing tackle craftsmen and a hundred years of vintage angling as discovered in the Hardy Brother's film archives. Our film will be doing a mini UK cinema tour next month.

Dates confirmed dates so far are:
Penrith - Lonsdale Alhambra Cinema, Cumbria - Sunday 17th May (8pm)  as part of the Cumbria Fishing Festival.
Elgin - The Moray Film Festival (28th-30th May exact time tbc), Scotland
Uckfield - The Picture House Cinema,  East Sussex - Sunday 31st May 8pm.

More about the film:
Once upon a time people made things with their hands, beautiful, intricate items like cane fishing rods and exotic salmon flies. One company did this best; Hardy’s of Alnwick. They were loved the world over, their fishing tackle adored by royalty, maharajas and film stars alike. Their attention to detail and quality brought a sense of fulfillment and pride to the job. 50 years working at Hardy’s created an incredible sense of community, generations of families worked together. Now this has all but gone and we live in a world of mass production, globalisation and outsourcing. But do we miss those days? Is there something special about the pride and feel of the handmade that suggests a missing need in our everyday life?

The Lost World of Mr HardyWhat the reviewers say:

"Savour the glory... relish every minute."  Fieldsports magazine

"Unmissable."  Classic Angling magazine

"Hugely entertaining and thought provoking"
Fly Fishing and Fly Tying magazine

“Glorious & Beautiful” Trout & Salmon magazine

About the filmmakers - Director Andy Heathcote says:
To me, our modern world has lost touch with an indescribable ‘something’, which both the craftsman and angling represent. The firm of Hardy’s from the small town of Alnwick up on the England-Scotland border, always seemed to epitomise this magic ‘something’. Even as a teenage fly fisherman I was intrigued by how this family fishing tackle company had become so adored around the world. Thirty years later in our post industrial age I was fascinated to realise this company still has a special place in the hearts of millions. I wanted to discover why, what it was that made them so special. What is it they represent? The Lost World of Mr Hardy is the result, and for me was a very special journey into a disappearing world.

If the screenings are successful we hope to bring the film to more cinemas across the UK so we hope readers will tell their fishing friends all about the film.
