SALTER TO SUPPORT ANGLING OPEN DAY

The Government's Angling Spokesman Martin Salter MP will be joining four times world angling champion Bob Nudd at Jubilee Lake in Thatcham on Saturday 27th May to hand out prizes and trophies at a special junior match organised by Thatcham Angling Association as part of their Angling Open Day.  The event is designed to promote angling to the wider community and will include a range of activities at the 3 lakes on the complex in Lower Way. 

The junior angling competition will include youngsters from Farnborough, Bracknell, Reading, South Cerney, Oxford, Newbury, Kintbury, Hungerford and Thatcham.  There will also be stalls from local tackle shops, a bouncy castle, tombola, barbecue and beer tent.  The Environment Agency will also have a display including a fish tank and giveaways for youngsters.  Currently, the Environment Agency has a major programme to increase participation in angling which is already Britain's most popular participant sport with over 3.5 million people.

“Although Thatcham is someway from my constituency I have been a member of the local angling association for over 25 years and they recently made me Honorary President of the Club. I am delighted to lend my support to this excellent community initiative by Thatcham Angling Association which is seeking to reach out and encourage more people to take up our wonderful sport.  Angling has always been popular in this part of the world with over 2,000 people in the Newbury and Thatcham area currently joining local angling clubs.”
