NOT EVERYBODY IS THINKING ABOUT THE OLYMPICS THIS SUMMER

Beijing isn't the only place to find great sport this summer. During National Fishing Week from July 19 - 27th, 2008, hundreds of locally organised events up and down the country will give people the opportunity to 'have a go' at fishing without worrying about the cost of licences or equipment.

For many people it could be the start of a lifetime's enjoyment of this healthy, relaxing sport and, for children especially, fishing is a perfect way to experience the great outdoors.

National Fishing Week is  and designed to make fishing accessible to people of all ages and from all walks of life. Everything has been done to remove potential barriers to participation. Throughout the country qualified coaches will give their time to welcome newcomers to the sport; the Environment Agency is covering the cost of licence fees for the day; clubs are waiving fees and organisers making tackle available.

All aspects of fishing, from coarse to sea to game, will be covered during the week in activities and events that range from taster sessions for individuals and families to competitions and demonstrations of angling. With Angling clubs, schools, tackle shops and fisheries up and down the country getting involved it is hoped that more and more people will discover a pastime that will stay with them long after the memory of the 2008 Olympic Games has faded.
