Sunken Float Paternoster

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

The sunken float paternoster rig is an extremely effective method of presenting a static live bait. If you’re fishing from a boat how do you detect takes?

Some people try using a surface float, but it must be set to the exact depth if not the rig will not fish properly. All very well and good but do you do anywhere that has an exactly even bottom? No of course not, so any slight deviation in casting could result in a change of depth.

The answer is to set up as usual with your float sunk but to fish a small sliding pencil float above it. Set the float a foot or so over depth (this will allow for the slight variations in depth)

The sunk float will keep the rig fishing properly and the sliding pencil will be your indicator. Totally unaffected by small variations in depth or the movement of an anchored boat.
