Darkside Tackle has added to its range of Soluble PVA Rig Foam Nuggets with a new line of High Viz Fluoro Rig Foam designed to stand out what ever the conditions!
The existing range of white rig foam nuggets supplied by Darkside are great for use at dusk and through the night, as they are easy to pick out with a torch or headlamp, whereas their new range of flouro rig foam nuggets are great for daytime use, as you can pick a colour that’s going to stand out on the surface at the exact spot you intend to cast to. If the spot is bathed in reflective bright white light, a white nugget might not show up the best, whereas a high-viz blue or orange piece of rig foam would be just the job. Likewise, if the spot is shaded, then a nice yellow or pink nugget will really stand out.
Unlike many other sellers, Darkside charge the same price for their white or mixed high viz foam, and they have plenty of listings for different pack sizes and types. It’s worth noting that the new mixed high viz foam also contains white as one of its many colours.
Why would you use rig foam? Well, how annoying is it when you reel in after several hours to find your hook point masked in rubbish, leaves or twigs off the lake bed? Rig Foam is a great way of ensuring perfect presentation every time to stop this from happening - especially during winter.
For the best results, simply fold one nugget in half and nip the hook through both ends so that the hook point is completely masked. Alternatively, lick all the way down one side of a nugget, then sandwich the hook between this piece and another which you stick to it (with the hook fully embedded in the middle).
Not only does the use of PVA rig foam reduce the chance of getting snagged on debris, it also helps by providing a handy marker for accurate baiting. Once you have made your cast, wait for the rig foam to pop up to the surface, and then place all your freebaits around the rig foam – job done.
