Hi Bob,

How do you hook boilies to a size 12 hook and how do you use pellets?

Cheers, Tom.

Hi Tom,

You use a hair rig and a baiting needle, a hair is a small piece of line coming from the back of the hook. With pellets, soft expanders are the best you just put the hook through them.

Good Fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

How much water do I add to bread crumb groundbait?

From Roy.

Hi Roy,

Just add water very carefully until it feels sticky and sinks. Then put through a riddle.

Good Fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

Could you advise me of the best place to buy stick floats and pinsticks for the river, also do you know if it’s still possible to buy the old John Dean & Dave Thomas stick floats?

Many thanks, Adrian Piggott

Hi Adrian,

Most good tackle shops sell normal stick floats. The John Dean & Dave Thomas sticks are difficult to obtain you would have to find a specialist tackle shop.

Good Luck, Bob Nudd.

Dear Bob,

I want to buy myself a new pole. My existing pole is a Shimano Ultegra that is shot to pieces; what would you recommend I buy; I can go up to £2,000.000 and need it to handle carp? Can you help please?

Thanks, Robert.

Hi Robert,

The Browning Champions Choice CC910 is the pole I use for Carp it is 17.5 metres and has about 9 kits it is a great pole.

Good Luck, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

Just wondering where I can get a spare No. 4 section for my black magic 2 as it has a hair line crack and will probably need replacing in the near future?

Thanks, Simon.

Hi Simon,

Email our head office at info-uk@zebco-europe.com the Black magic 111 sections will fit your pole so there will be no problem.

Good Luck, Bob Nudd.

Dear Bob,

The lake that I fish for carp is only 3/4 of an acre (more of a pond than a lake) but holds carp to over 30lb. It is fished 24/7 and has no means of fresh water flowing into it so all the bait put in is left there. I fish off the bottom and have tried boilies, tiger nuts, loose feeding hemp, and groundbaiting large and small amounts… basically everything I know! However, the fish are not talking it for me or for anyone. It has recently opened up for night fishing and a lot of people have been catching at night time (most likely because this used to be safe feeding time for the fish) but if I can help it I would like to catch one in the day. Can you give me any advice on what to do there???

Richard Dearden

Hi Richard,

It sounds like a difficult lake, if the carp are taking floaters you should be able to catch them, Chum mixers would be best.

Good Luck, Bob Nudd.

Editors note; on pressured waters where the carp have seen most methods and tactics it can pay to go back to basics. Carp are curious creatures and if you can put a bait right under their nose that shouts ‘food’ they often can’t resist sampling the item. Natural baits like Worms and maggots can be great on pressured waters. Try using a couple of lob worms over a handful of hemp, or a popped-up ball of maggots.

Hi Bob,

I have very recently started pole fishing and I’m not sure how to find the depth when using it. Do you use a plummet like a float rod or something else? Please help me with this.

Thank you, Pete.

Hi Pete,

You use a plummet about 15 grams and lower it in slowly directly below the pole tip.

Good Fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

How do you make paste that will stay on they hook and will catch     more fish when I fish a match?

Thanks, Steven Reynold

Hi Steven,

I use the Van Den Eynde ready made paste; it stays on the hook and catches loads of fish.

Best Regards, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

I’ve got a black magic 111 pole it’s a great pole but I have real difficulty finding spares for it. Any suggestions?

Cheers, Paul Dennis.

Hi Paul,

Browning have spares for this pole as it is a current model. Email info-uk@zebco-europe.com they will then give you details of your nearest stockist and availability.

Best Regards, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob

I live in Ipswich and I would like to know if there is anywhere near me that I can catch barbel and the best method to use please?

Cheers, Lee.

Hi Lee,

The nearest place to you would be the River Lee in Essex. I am not aware of any barbel in Suffolk but I am sure there will be somewhere.

Best Regards, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

I am 14 and I would like some advice on what the best groundbait and techniques are for catching tench as I am in a fishing a match this coming Sunday 8th August at a venue called Stillingfleet (Orchard Farm Ponds), West Yorkshire and it is heavily stocked with tench from 1lb onwards?

Thanks Paul.

Hi Paul,

Try Van Den Eynde Superfeed Red, and use worm or red maggots on the hook.

Good Fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

I know this is an unusual question for you but I am wanting a pike and bream fishing holiday on the Bann and Lough Beg next year but I can't find any self-catering accommodation anywhere in the area.

Do you have any suggestions of where to stay? Obviously it needs to be as close to the river as possible and have easy access to boats as I will want to do a lot of pike fishing on the river and on Lough Beg.

Many Thanks, Mick Bamfield

Hi Mick,

Try Anglers World Holidays on 01246221717 they have details and prices of all accommodation in that area.

Good Fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

I am an inexperienced angler. What is the best line set-up to start with on a lake?

Thanks, Martin.

Hi Martin,

About 4lb reel line should be OK.

Good Fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

I have just started to pole fish and was wondering which elastic to use for general bream and tench fishing. Also, do you know when to thread elastic through 1, 2, or 3 sections?

Many Thanks, Ron.

Hi Ron,

Number 10 elastic is good for bream and tench, I put it through 3 sections or if you have power kits then 2 is fine.

Good Fishing, Bob Nudd.

Hi Bob,

I need your help! I find it hard to have a long pole when I have a big fish on can you give me a tip how to play a big fish on the pole?

Thanks, Christopher Martin.

Hi Christopher,

Just put your pole on the water and point it in the direction of the fish, wait until it tires before lifting the pole and landing.

Good Fishing, Bob Nudd.
