There have been a lot of photos floating around Facebook lately of anglers with fishing hooks embedded in them. Fact of the matter is, this happens and, when it does happen, most of us are in the middle of nowhere and have to sort it out for ourselves!

The trouble with barbed hooks is that they don’t want to come out the way they went in.

I did a little searching on YouTube tonight and this is one of a number of videos that shows a real-life hook removal. It’s well worth watching, just in case it ever happens to you, and I’d like to congratulate the people who filmed it for making it available.

I carry that alcohol soap stuff and a tube of Savlon with me in my First Aid kit when I’m fishing and this has proven useful before when friends have impaled themselves on hooks, or come second to a bit of pike handling!

DISCLAIMER:
I should, perhaps, add that this should not be taken as advice, merely as entertainment. A ‘medical’ person would probably tell you to check whether you need a jab afterwards, so always consult a qualified person if anything like this happens to you.

There, that should keep the lawyers off my back!
