A brief look at the 25th August, 2009, issue of this popular angling newspaper

The lead story in this week’s Angling Times is a rather worrying one, concerning pike killings by “the men who are systematically killing our wild waters”.The accompanying photograph is equally as shocking!

If you’re into coarse fishing, there’s plenty of big fish news to grab your interest, including a report of a fifty pound carp caught on a prawn, big bream, barbel, roach, eels and more.

Regular columnists include:

Keith Arthur – this week, Keith talks about shark conservation, cheats and racist bans!
Neville Fickling – zander protection is Neville’s spotlight this week.
Des Taylor – Des talks canals, eels, small rods and nuts!
Martin Bowler – river fishing for chub with Tim Norman and John Everard.
Paul Garner – float fishing for barbel on rivers.

Angling TimesBig eel lovers will really appreciate the article by Barry McConnell, where his tells the story of his remarkable 9lb 2oz capture. Seeing the photo of that fish is worth the trip to the newsagent’s alone.

The all-new Greys predator range is uncovered, too, and Terry Winstone reveals his ‘secret’ sliding pellet waggler rig.

The letters page is also lively, with a discussion starting on the suggestion to put a levy on the freshwater fishing licence in order to support the Angling Trust.

Barbel rods and reels are up for grabs in the free competition and you can also claim a free Korum DVD by sending off an SAE, as well as 10 free sea rigs (you pay just the £3.99 postage and packaging cost).

All of the above is just a sample of what’s in this week’s Angling Times for the cover price of just £1.70.
