More Off The Beaten Track

Big Carp’s on a bit of a roll at the moment, and it’s been a great year all in all. Every issue has been praised for its content and quite rightly so because its monthly lineup of writers has been extraordinary in 2013.

We have exclusive diaries from Terry Dempsey, Sean Leverett and Ed Betteridge; a Rotary Letter written by Lee Jackson, Dave Lane, Jamie Clossick, Jon McAllister, Leon Bartropp, Sean, Ed and me, and other exclusives from Dave Mallin, Mike Jones, Jo Green and Steve Mogford to name only a few, not to mention our comprehensive catch reports and incredible Made In England roundup.

This year saw our 200th Issue in March and our sales in the news trade double! Issue 200 contained the Who’s Who of carp writers including most of the above, topped off with Andy Little, Kevin Nash, Terry Hearn, Chris Ball and Robin Dix.

It was not the 200th issue that caused the biggest stir believe it or not, but our last issue the ‘Off The Beaten Track Special’, which only contained ‘off the radar’ captures. We had literally thousands of messages from not only the UK but as far away as the USA extolling its virtues. So a massive thanks goes to all who sent their prize catches in. Please send in any future ones; we would love to see them, and I assure you that the readers of BC feel nothing but respect for your efforts. An even bigger thanks goes to the river lads who are already doing some follow up pieces for future issues.

It’s not only been a great year for BC but there have been an unheard of number of carp books published in the last 12 months. We started off this time last year with Mike Wilson’s book in the Legends series followed by A History Of Yateley Volumes I and II. Trevor Pritchard’s highly acclaimed Casting for Cloopers was next, followed by The Big Carp 200 Souvenir book. John Harry stepped up next with his book in the Legends series, which leaves only one more in this series. The end of the summer heralded the start of three new series: firstly, Volume I of The Big Carp Rotary Letter, and next, a new three-part technical series began with Advanced Terminal Rigs, and by the end of the year the first two in the new Big Carp Hunters series will be out – Dave Mallin in October and Nick Helleur next. So, it’s been quite a year for Bountyhunter Publications, now the largest publisher of carp angling magazines and books in the world.

And so to this month’s scorching issue, and we’ve lots more ‘Off The Beaten Track’ stuff sent in, including a 500-acre reservoir containing a possible record, more stunners from that Brackish Pit, some farmers’ pond crackers and a big fish from an unfished northern water. Articles include Terry Dempsey talking autumn baiting techniques, David Holmes smashing the Roach Pit, Ed Betteridge on Burghfield, Nick Burrage beginning a new series, Jo Green on the Road Lake and our Made in England and Catch report sections bursting at the seams with big, black, scaly monsters topped by Sean Leverett’s massive 51lb mirror from Chichester, the full story of which is in Sean’s diary.

Add to these the Chronicle guys at Linear, Baitzone Autumn Tips, Shockleader’s latest news, Tac-Tec reviews, three competitions and all the best in advertisers including all the forthcoming shows, and you can see why a subscription to Big Carp makes good sense, especially when you take a look at our five subby free offers… Looking for a Christmas present? There couldn’t be a better one than a subscription. The freebie makes a great present on its own, plus you get the mag through the letterbox every month… The present that keeps on giving!

See you next month or ‘like’ The Big Carp Magazine Facebook page and hear about everything to do with BC and me first.
