Here’s the introduction from the man himself, Rob Maylin, along with a list of articles you can expect to find inside.

Ultimate Bait and Good Looking Carp

This month’s BC has two themes running throughout its pages: bait and good looking carp.

Firstly bait and a number of features directly and indirectly bait orientated, a couple of which will definitely put some extra fish on the bank. We start with Simon Giblin, one of Custom Bait Services’ top lads who describes his approach to catching a big target fish from a very difficult venue. Paul Rudd, the man behind Denham baits takes a look at the last four months results on his baits.

Danny and Tom of Velocity Baits cover a wide diversity of subjects and give away their edges when it comes to stick mix and solid bag techniques. Dave Poxon from Eclipse Baits has come up with a brilliant idea and my tip for the top this spring – flavoured salt! Field tested over the course of two seasons, Allsalts have been devastating at certain times of the year, so read Dave’s feature – it’s a ‘must read’.

Turner Baits take a look at hookbait enhancement and gives you their tips for ultimate attraction. Also Mark Lycett talks bait ingredients and discloses the recipe for the bait of one of the UK’s best big carp anglers – a host of tips and edges to improve your bait now that the spring is on its way. Finally Dean Towey from Scientific Baits takes an in-depth look into carp sight – what do carp actually see? And what’s the most effective, hi viz or lo viz?

As you can see, we have a wide spectrum of knowledge from SIX of the UK’s top bait firms.

Now to the good looking carp, and we’ve got the cream of the crop in this month’s BC. First up our cover story from a long term favourite of ours, Spencer Wright. Spencer has been quietly going about his carp fishing, catching the biggest in the lake and in numbers difficult to equal. His 2013- 2014 season has seen numerous 40lb commons and mirrors from this prolific angler. His unrivalled determination and effort combined with his meticulous attention to detail with both bait and rigs has placed Spencer at the top of his game for over a decade. Now here’s your chance to see how he does it, as he discloses all the little edges that made him top rod.

“On a Black Swan Mission”, is Mark Cripps’ account of the jewels of Dinton Pastures. Mark won our Good Looking Carp of the Month competition in November with a stunning chestnut common. This is the whole story of his campaign on one of the UK’s most prolific big fish waters.

And this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this month’s content, as we’ve also got campaign articles from John Picking, Mathew Williams and Dan Read, plus the Chronicle Boys on tour, Shockleader and catch reports, Made in England featuring 2014’s biggest specimens, Tac-Tec reviews of the latest must-have gear and the Good Looking Carp of the Month competition featuring dozens of incredibly beautiful entries.

Speaking of competitions we’ve got some good ones this month, including a holiday for six people in France, iBaits product goody bags, King of the Pond goody bags and five prizes in the Eclipse Baits Competition, all easy to enter.

Next month it’s ‘Off the Beaten Track II’ and believe me No II is even better than the first articles with monster carp that have never been seen before from venues you have never heard of. It’ll be a whole magazine devoted to the unknown – something sadly lacking in today’s carp scene.

There is still time to send in your entries, pictures, catch reports, articles, whatever you want so long as the venue is ‘special’.

I’ve been really excited about putting this one together; it’s been six months since I started approaching people for their input. Thanks guys – once again you have stepped up to the mark and given up your hard-earned secrets. Without you it wouldn’t be possible.

Finally a last thank-you to Dave Mallin, the boilies deal sponsor for Big Carp Subscription 2014-2015, that’s six subby deals now! Haven’t got one? It’s a no-brainer! Look here – www.bigcarpmagazine.co.uk
