“For All Those Left Behind” is different to many of the angling books that you can see for sale elsewhere. It’s not a ‘how to’ book, nor is it a ‘story’ in the normal angling style. Instead, it’s combination of angling tales and an insight into the mind of a man whose father's death led to a new journey for the son left behind.

Reading the above probably wouldn’t make you rush out and buy the book, but please don’t think that it’s necessarily a sombre or morbid book. In fact, the book is entertaining and reminds the reader of some of the reasons why we fish. It’s not just about catching bigger and bigger fish • the companionship, sharing and personal development play a lot larger role than maybe we realise at the time. Angling helps to shape us as people.

John Andrews had ‘given up’ fishing as a youngster and it wasn’t until after his father’s passing that he decided to use angling as a way of rekindling the memories of their days together. It made me take a look back into my past and think about the encounters that I’ve had with people over the years through our chosen sport. It’s quite amazing, when you put your mind to it, just how much of an influence angling has had on the likes of you and I.

If you fancy something a little different to read as the nights draw in, give “For All Those Left Behind” some consideration. It won’t help you catch more fish, but it may help you realise that that’s not all fishing’s about.
