Fishing - Anglers Net - UK Angling Website, Magazine and Forum: Last Chance To Register For The £1000 Fishing Event In Aid Of Charity Last Chance To Register For The £1000 Fishing Event In Aid Of Charity ================================================================================ Elton Murphy on 05 June, 2009 01:17:00 Anglers across Scotland are being urged to act quickly if they want to be in with a chance of winning £1000 or a day of fishing with celebrity fisherman Paul Young. Macmillan Cancer Support hopes anglers across the area will help raise more than £40,000 by taking part in its Big Fish contest on June 13, 2009. But a massive increase in sign ups this year means that there are a limited number of places left at the 13 fisheries hosting the contest. Two fisheries, Carbeth Fishery in Glasgow and Broom Fisheries in Dumfriesshire, have no spaces left at all for the event, while Kingennie Country Resort in Dundee is almost full. There are places left in the other 10 fisheries, however Macmillan is urging anyone who wants to take part to register quickly to ensure they get a space and to receive their free fundraising pack before the event. Macmillan’s director for Scotland Elspeth Atkinson said: "We have had unprecedented interest in the Big Fish this year which is absolutely fantastic. We’ve never had so many anglers signing up to take part. "We still have some places left for anyone but there aren’t many so I would urge anyone who intends to take part but hasn’t got around to registering yet toget in touch as soon as possible." Celebrity angler Paul Young, who presents Hooked on Fishing for Discovery Real Time, said: "Everyone who takes part in the Big Fish will have a great time, whether they are seasoned anglers or just fancy trying something new to raise money for a good cause. "I’d urge everyone to get fishing this June to raise money to help fund Macmillan’s vital services across Scotland." The Big Fish is taking place at 10 fisheries across Scotland and three fisheries in Northern Ireland on June 13. Four fish at each venue will be tagged, with three worth a different cash sum totalling £1000 and one booby prize. There will also be prizes for the heaviest bag of fish and the heaviest fish. The angler who brings along the most sponsorship money on the day of the event will win the prize of a day of fishing with Paul Young. Anyone wishing to take part must raise at least £50 in sponsorship. For more information visit www.macmillan.org.uk/thebigfish, email fishing@macmillan.org.uk or call 01224 701505.
