QUALITY, UNCROWDED FISHING ON PEACEFUL KENT GRAVEL PIT

Quiet mature gravel pit near Canterbury offering:

Beautiful surroundings on a nature reserve and a long way away from any major road. The loudest noise is usually birdsong.

Little fished (only 30 members on 15 acres) - you're often more likely to see a bailiff than another angler!

Wingham is an extremely rich water, and was lightly stocked with the fastest growing 3 year old carp in their year class. What's more they're all British!

Our first 30lber was caught at just 7 years of age. This was possibly the youngest ever 30lb English carp.

Phil Woodcock with a heavily-plated mirror of 41-12

Despite very few anglers fishing, the water now produces a lot of 30lbers, with between 1/3 and a 1/2 of the carp caught being over this weight.  There are at least 9 forties, including 3 known 40lb+ commons. Additionally there are a lot of upper 30s, including young fish.

The lake records currently stand at 46-12 for common carp & 49-08 for mirror carp.

To avoid overbreeding and keep growth rates up, in some years the few small carp caught (those under 20lbs) have been removed as caught. However all carp are again being returned to allow a greater number of fish to come through. Indeed, several carp born at Wingham have already reached 40lbs including the record of 49-08, despite them not yet being fully grown.  In fact the 49-08 has grown 9lbs in a fraction over 2 years.

The only species in the lake are carp, pike and the odd big eel, so almost every take is from a big carp.

Clubhouse with kitchen, lounge, bait room, toilets and shower. Secure car parking.

No closed season. 4 rod limit in Winter, 3 rod limit in Summer. Private pike fishing. Free 2 rod daytime fishing to Carp Lake members on the adjacent 40 acre Coarse Lake from mid July to mid March.

"Wingham is one of the quietest, most unspoilt beauty spots I've ever fished. It already boasts some of the youngest big fish in the country and the future potential is nothing short of amazing. Mark my words, anglers will be fighting for a ticket in a few years time!"
Chris Ball of "Carp Talk"

"Make no mistake - the plan on which Steve has embarked and stuck to will, within five or six years, help the lakes produce 40lb+ carp, tench in excess of 12lb, bream possibly of 20lb+... never mind the perch, pike and rudd.

If you want this kind of fishing, you have to join early, see out the development phase and eventually reap the rewards. As I've said to Steve on several occasions in the last decade, if anglers want to get to reach the summit of achievement, they have to join at ground level. I bet those who thought "I'll join later, once the fish get big" are now kicking themselves."

Dawn over Wingham Carp Lake

"I'm unaware of any other British lakes where carp have grown to 30lbs in just 7 years. What's more 8 year old bream at over 10lbs means that Wingham could beat the record in the years to come - possibly by some margin! The complex is very attractive and peaceful, and if I lived closer I'd be pestering you for a ticket!"

NO DAY TICKETS

Following a change of ownership (that thankfully saved the site from development) we've unfortunately had a big rent increase. To minimise the impact on subs the season on both lakes is therefore now divided into 3 periods of 4 months. Members may choose to fish for 4, 8 or 12 months of the year, or to split their fishing between the Carp and Coarse Lakes.

Early period (March 15th - July 14th)  £720

Late period (July 15th - November 14th)  £500

Winter period (November 15th - March 14th)  £390

Discounted 12 month ticket  £1350

Joining/rejoining fee £230.  There's no further joining fee if you increase the number of periods, or if you join the 40 acre Coarse Lake. Carp Lake members have a free 2 rod daytime ticket (dawn to 11pm) on the Coarse Lake from July 15th to March 14th.  This can be upgraded to a full ticket subject to vacancies.

Credit/debit cards accepted via PayPal.

Places on the 15 acre Carp Lake are limited to just 30. There's a waiting list in force, but do apply now to stand a chance of getting a ticket before a long wait!
