QUALITY, UNCROWDED FISHING ON PEACEFUL KENT GRAVEL PIT

Quiet mature gravel pit near Canterbury offering:

Beautiful surroundings on a nature reserve and a long way away from any major road. The loudest noise is usually birdsong.

Little fished (only 30 members on 15 acres) - you're often more likely to see a bailiff than another angler!

Wingham is an extremely rich water, and was lightly stocked with the fastest growing 3 year old fish in their year class. What's more they're all British!

Our first 30lber was caught at just 7 years of age. This was possibly the youngest ever 30lb English carp.

Despite very few anglers fishing, the water now regularly produces 30lbers, with very nearly half the carp caught being over this weight. Indeed, many members have landed more than one thirty in the same day, often both a common and a mirror. Few fish under 20lbs are caught, whilst at least 4 different carp have come out at over 40lbs. The lake records currently stand at 43-04 for common carp & 42-12 for mirror carp.

To avoid overbreeding and keep growth rates up, in some years all small carp (those under 20lbs) have been removed as caught. However all carp are again being returned to allow a greater number of fish to come through. Indeed, at least one carp born at Wingham has already reached 40lbs, despite being far from fully grown.

The only species in the lake are carp, pike and the odd eel, so almost every take is from a big carp.

Clubhouse with kitchen, lounge, bait room, toilets and shower. Secure car parking.

No closed season. 4 rod limit in Winter, 3 rod limit in Summer. Private pike fishing. Free 2 rod daytime fishing to Carp Lake members on the adjacent 40 acre Coarse Lake.

"Wingham is one of the quietest, most unspoilt beauty spots I've ever fished. It already boasts some of the youngest big fish in the country and the future potential is nothing short of amazing. Mark my words, anglers will be fighting for a ticket in a few years time!"
Chris Ball of "Carp Talk"

"Make no mistake - the plan on which Steve has embarked and stuck to will, within five or six years, help the lakes produce 40lb+ carp, tench in excess of 12lb, bream possibly of 20lb+... never mind the perch, pike and rudd.

If you want this kind of fishing, you have to join early, see out the development phase and eventually reap the rewards. As I've said to Steve on several occasions in the last decade, if anglers want to get to reach the summit of achievement, they have to join at ground level. I bet those who thought "I'll join later, once the fish get big" are now kicking themselves."

Dawn over Wingham Carp Lake

"I'm unaware of any other British lakes where carp have grown to 30lbs in just 7 years. What's more 8 year old bream at over 10lbs means that Wingham could beat the record in the years to come - possibly by some margin! The complex is very attractive and peaceful, and if I lived closer I'd be pestering you for a ticket!"
