Well yesterday i gave the pike down my local canal a chance to pounce on my nice new shad (perch pattern). Sadly however they didnt seem inclined to take me up on the offer. So having wandered down one way i returned to the car covering the water with a shallow diving plug (also perch pattern) which did the honours with a wee jack at around a pound and a better fish at about 5 or 6 pounds.
So 2 0 the the plug. Will have to se if the shad can redeem himself next time smile.gif

Dunno much about the Fox jobbies but they seem a little stiff to me.
I much prefer the fluoro pink shads you find in buckets for 50p, usually stuck to the purple glittery worms that nobody buys.

A shallow running plug is going to be visible to any fish on the same level or below it, given reasonable clarity. The shad was probably much deeper in the water so there were less fish able to see it.

If fish are up and moving a shallower running lure is usually a better option. When they are in a more neutral or reluctant mood they often lie on the bottom and a shad bounced along close to them is too good to resist, but you do need to get it close to them.
