Having bought a maggot riddle to separate maggots from casters, can anyone tell me how long the casters will remain useable when separated and put in water. I have some left over from yesterday and would like to use the casters on Wednesday evening. Do I leave then in water all the time or remove and bag them at some stage. Any light shed on my dimness would be appreciated.

once you've seperated them put them into plastic
bags with about a pint in each wrap each bag in a sheet of newspaper (to prevent freezer burn)& pop them in the fridge, don't keep them in water as they'll spoil as the water sours. -------------------- |

Wash your casters well under cold running water (not to fierce a flow as youll smash them). Drain them and put in a clean bait box. Fold some kitchen towel (paper) to roughly the same size of your bait box lid and place on top of the casters. Now cling film the top of the box and put the lid on, turn the box over and they'll keep for a week or more.

If you keep them cold and exclude air from a plastic bag they will last for ages. If you are specifically turning casters try and riddle them regularly and get them when they are very pale.
They will soon brown up and harden when you let the air get to them on the river bank. Dave -------------------- Save Our Sharks Member

It's OK for them to be slightly damp after you've floated off any floaters but if you keep them in water they will just drown and then start to stink. Keep them in a sealed plastic bag in the fridge.

Many, thanks fellas, I had better get out in the garage and recue them from a watery grave! I have sorted then 3 times today and dropped them into an inch of water in a bait box, I'll nip down and transfer them, they will be used tomorrow evening so there should not be a problem with them going sour.
