I purchase baulk spools of i would say medium quality line from 2lb to 6lb,how long would you advise that the line could be used for without a noticable reduction in quality.I hope someone will help.
Regards.

Keep the bulk spool in a fridge and it will last indefinitely.

I've got some 4lb bs on a bulk spool which is over ten years old and still perfectly ok.

Once on the reel it will deteriorate in exactly the same way that any line does, exposure to sunlight is probably the biggest natural cause of deterioration.

I get black looks if I keep maggots in the fridge. Can't imagine what sort of reception I will get if I put spools of line and 20 odd reels in there as well!!

If I keep my rods in a rod bag (i.e. away from sunlight), how long should line last?

I change the line on my centrepin every couple of trips, but thats usually cos I'm switching strengths for a different venue, or I've had bad casting day and cut most of it off anyway because of tangles smile.gif

Unless it's showing obvious signs of wear, I'm generally happy to leave line on a reel for up to 12 months before replacing it, although I do discard the last few yards after every trip, on the assumption that it's the last few yards thats been in contact with the bottom/weed etc and likely to be worn.

Sorry, I do sometimes forget about the poor people. My butler keeps all my stuff in his refrigerator.

Whereas back in the real world I have a bait fridge in the garage and the line goes in there.
