Went to collect son at the end of his first year at music college in Cardiff today. Had to stop at the college to collect xylophones and suchlike for summer practice, and while he rounded up instruments I took a look at the little stream that runs by the college.
It was gin-clear and full of little silver fish. Spotted loads of small dace and some roach and some bigger fish with big floppy dorsal fins. Arggh. Where's the telescopic rod and a bit of leftover sandwich when you need it?
Anyway after a while, by way of experiment, I started stamping hard on the bank to see the fish's reaction. They flocked in !! Fish from yards away came steaming in to exactly where the disturbance was.
Now I'm confused about fishy behaviour. This stream runs between a big park and a busy road with a path along both sides. Have the fish got used to leftover chips and kebabs being chucked in by staggering late night revellers and come for their share when they sense a disturbance?

cheers

Seems as if they're quite tame to me as you've indicated.

I used to fish a pond that had a adjoining bit that no one was allowd to fish.
In the main pond the carp were wary as is the norm on fisheries but in this sanctuary adjoing pond you could get some of the carp to take bread from your fingers.
I reckon most of em never left the safe bit.

Not so strange really - why do you think raking a swim for tench works so well?? - I'm sure some of the fish are attracted in by the commotion - I've had bites a number of times, straight after casting out...

Instead of stalking we can stamp our feet on the bank or jump in the water even! whilst shouting "come here fishy fishy".

Anyone want to try it? biggrin.gif
