C'mon, you know it makes sense.

Pick a branch of angling you haven't really done before ( fly / lure / carp / 20' telescopic rod fishing ) and buy the appropriate Lidl's kit, and try it out for a few sessions.

Could change your angling life smile.gif

I'm getting me a £29.99 fly-fishing combo and heading down to the local streams. Always wanted to try fly-fishing. In-season too

If it works I'll take that baby out, come June, fishing for pike, perch and chub.

(n.b. new lure anglers will need to post proof of having studied and understood the pacgb.com pike fishing and welfare pages - otherwise the pike police will bite you )

GlennB . . I discovered fly fishing about 12 years ago and now spend many days on the banks of Bewl etc. While never forgetting my passion for Tench, Barbel, Mullet etc.
The Lidl's rod is prob cra* but at that money worth a punt.
Best advise I can give is to find a fly angler who can teach you how to cast. I taught myself but found the best way to learn was to watch other angler's mistakes and compare with those who were casting a great line. I'm not purfect but as good as the majority of other 'good' fly casters.

Good luck.

geof bucknall tought me the art of fluff chucking unfortunatly being a kid i couldnt afford to actually use the stuff and swopped for probably old tat the rod and reel he kindly gave me ,i have an intrepid fly rod and plenty of their reels ,would i use them ? no bread works best for trout.
that just leaves baitcasting/lure fishing for me ,i have 3 old baitcast multypliers and waiting to find at a reasonable price a rod ,ofcourse i have used plugs and spinners in the past but not with dedicated tackle .I did have a woolworths bought level wind baitcaster but this cheap japanese tinplate tat fell apart on the first decent fish i had on it.
never have and will never afford to go big game fishing len cacutts book will be the nearest i will ever get to it

everything can be fixed with WD40 and duck tape.
If it moves and it shouldnt --duck tape
If it doesnt and it should-- WD40

FWIW My advice would be not to get too disheartened if you don't catch. Fly fishing a river is a very different game to fly fishing a 'put and take' water.

I bought the fish finder. I'm going to try it on my local carp puddle. When I'm deep-sea fishing the skipper is forever telling us that there are masses of fish just under the boat, but we never get any. I want to see if this thing is any help in targeting a carp. I'll report next week.
