Hi,
My children and I are planning on suprising my Husband next Friday with some fishing gear. He used to fish alot, but no longer has any gear. I have not got a great deal of cash and was wondering if the Kingfisher Anglers coarse fishing outfit in Argos Extra p1105 would be ok as a start for him to build on? The maximum I could probably stretch to is £60 for everything plus the license I dont know anything about fishing, so I am afraid I do not know what the basic items that he would need are. I want him to be able to go straight away with what we have bought. I am most grateful for any help you are able to give. |

try looking on here for some bargains, or alternatively, try a search on ron thompson on google, they make some reasonably priced rods, and you can even get rod/reel combinations. I'd try and steer clear of argos fishing tackle if I were you. hope this helps - Andy [ 24. Would echo what Andy has said.Sadly a lot of "beginers" outfits are just rubbish.A total waste of time.Knowing what tackle to buy if you dont fish yourself is a nightmare! A lot of shops (especially the large mail order ones) do gift vouchers.A bit impersonal but least you get the right thing. If you want to buy something though try and find out what type of fishing he used to do and where he would be likely to go.Let us know some of these details and we can reccomend some items and even where the best place to get them from.

Since you have a budget of £60 and presumably you dont know enough about fishing tackle to buy individual items to put together a basic starter outfit, the Argos 2XL kit would make a good start point for about £40. Its cheap and cheerful but it would get your husband fishing again. Even if you knew enough to put together all of the bits and pieces from the discount retailers, you'd still end up with a budget outfit probably no better than Argos. If the fishing bug bites again and he wants to spend a bit more on upgrading his kit then the Argos stuff would probably suit one of your children as a starter outfit.

with £60 you could easily buy a rod and reel combo which would be alot better than an argos deal lol.
floats, hooks, line doesnt cost that much and I would say with £10 extra you could easily buy enough floats hooks and some line to start fishing properly -------------------- My picture gallery

the argos rod is ok as a starter rod, both my mates brought them but have now upgraded.
the reel is rubbish as is the line thats on it. floats are preety much floats, shot they give is rubbish guess the weight type thing, the catty is ok for what it is, and the hooks are just hooks but they arnt particually good strong hooks. and the hooks to nylon hooklengths are a guessing game. so what i would do is basically what the others have suggessted and scour the net for bargins or just pop into the local tackle shop. -------------------- hmmmm really

JK. The lady knows nothing about fishing tackle budget or otherwise. You clearly do, so why not suggest a shopping list of float rod, reel and all of the other stuff she'll need and where she can buy it (dont forget postage costs) Budget is £60.

well ..
I would first suggest going to tackle shop and ask what they could do for her. Then with a list we could mabey help from there. okuma reels (10-20) .. cant really go wrong. shakspere rods(30-50).. cant really go wrong. surly any good tackle shop would give you a good deal. If you live anywhere near fosters at birmingham give them a drop by. They have been very good to me. -------------------- My picture gallery

Osaeru
The licence is going to cost you 22.00 alone Take a look at Bennetts of sheffield, wmac, angling direct and any other online shops. Have you been to your local tackle shop to see if they will do a deal. Your local LTD (leeda) dealer will have some deals going as they do the stredfast 2xl range and some better ones. Also look in your local free ads as there is usually fishing gear going cheap. -------------------- RUDD

What fishing gear guys? The lady doesnt know where to start. She needs a carbon float rod, reel and all the bits. Which rod ? which reel ? etc and where online. A tackle dealer is going to sell her just what he wants to sell her.
