My daughter and her husband have their own chooks and they give us plenty of doubles.

My old grandad swore blind that double yolked eggs where a slightly diferent shape to regular ones not as pionty at the pionty end, On the rare ocaision that Ive had a double he's been right wacko.gif . I think that some chickens have a genetic disposition towards laying doubles, as opposed to certian breeds, I think the EEC over here has put the Kybosh on double yolkers as they dont conform to there sizeing guidlines mad.gif

Always go to a farm shop or a genuine village shop that sells proper free range eggs.

Ask for eggs laid by a Buff Orpington.

When they say they can't tell what breed of hen laid their eggs (as they surely will), offer to pick them out yourself.

Pick out the larger blunt ended ones (see Five Bellies post above) those will have a fair proportion of double yolks.

Got that tip second hand from Bernard Miles who in his turn got it from his granny. wink.gif

It's not surprising you got more of them when you were a young feller Fred.

Dodo eggs were well known for them, so I've heard. tongue.gif wink.gif

thought the whites, and not the yolks, were the healthy portion of an egg. Could be a conspiracy on the part of those insisting we ingest healthier food? ohmy.gif

come on Chesters. you know you love a possible conspiracy thread

Funny you should say that FB.
Ever since Barry's post extolling the 'good old days', I've been going back to the beginning of AN, (all 1025 pages! ohmy.gif ).
(It's strange to see some of the now 'old' members introducing themselves, when they were the new kids on the block biggrin.gif ).

Anyway, during my excavations I came across a post about mushy pea fritters, (something I've not had for years). It seems they were popular even then.
It appears that Barry was right.
There was a more discerning membership on AN 'back in the day'. tongue.gif
