Just a quick note to let you know that I added a few reports to Gary Bayes' website this weekend:

http://www.bayeswaterfishing.co.uk/

I like what Gary is doing there. He genuinely cares about the anglers who fish there and shares in all their successes.

Looks like they have some nice Carp, but I am sure I will still manage to blank.

May take along a few maggots, I can always resort to some Roach bothering.

All excited now. Always nice trying out a new venue and they have some good Carp to target.

Stocked up on bait today and got a few tubs of worms, to see if I can tempt a Perch or Tench out.

We fished a 2 day session from Saturday afternoon until mid day Monday. The conditions on the Saturday were not good with all the rain and after casting out our Carp Rods we umed and aahed about whether to set our biveys up in the rain or wait for a break in the downpour.

In the end we had to set up in the rain, our choice of swims may not have been the best and so we paid the penalty of fishing most of the weekend in a bit of a mud bath. The bank we were fishing from seems to get very mudy. The fishery seemed to have improved things on this side of the lake by digging a small irigation channel which reduces the impact of any flooding. This looks like work in progress and did not go as far as our swims.

The rain, cold & mud proberbly effected my fishing and I did not put the normal level of work into changing rigs, baits as I normally would. Saturday night provided 3 small Common Carp with the best around 5lb.

Things improved on the Sunday with the sun coming out and most of our swim starting to dry out a little except the part in front of my bivy that now looked like the somme. Without the rain and cold my fishing improved and on Sunday night I caught another 3 Carp, a small Common and 2 Mirrors one at 14.2 lb and an estimated one at 11lb. (I bet if we weighed it would have been more)

Through out the session I feeder fished and caught plenty of Rudd, Roach & Rudd/Roach Hybrids + a few Perch with the best just over a pound. The silver fish were a fish a chuck, very good sport.

Gary and Steve seemed top blokes and were very happy to provide information on swims and tactics and I intend to register as a day ticket member, on this session I fished as a guest of Jedibond.

While I am keen to sample the Carp fishing, what has really interested me is the potential for big Perch on this water. Gary and Steve confirmed that 3lb + have been caugh and that they stocked the water with some 4lb + fish. The lake is only 4 years old and with out any Pike to compete with and the abundance of silver fish there could be some big stripeys swimming around unfished for by all the Carp Anglers.
