Is there any good reason to stick with the OEM and not buy the cheapo compatibles?

Depends on the original price for your genuines carts. Remanufactures etc can offer a small price saving, have you ever thought about the refill kits they are what i use 99% of the time, i only buy the cheap original epsom ones £1-2.00 each.
Try your local Aldi i get my refills there, usually 3x30ml colours and a black for £4.99.
Its cheaper than £30.00 a time for my usual HP ones

Have also found that these are usually cheapest for carts http://svp.co.uk/

hope this helps

anyone thinking of buying HP carts bear in mind there two versions for some ,don't confuse a light user version with a normal one in your final comparisons wink.gif
saying that though the HP carts are the easiest to refill but it MUST be done before its empty

Cheers guys, compatibles it is then.

Den's link wins on prices Jimpy. smile.gif

.....and if anyone is interested I needed a cheapo printer in a hurry cos I needed to print out some invoices and my printer was farked, I got an Epson D92 for £30 and subsequently printed off a couple pics up to A4 (the max size) and the results are really very good, certainly can't fault it for £30.

i have used epson since dot matrix days but i have fallen out of love for them now were in a centrally heated house ,the darned heads dry out and unlike HP their not replaceable ,i once used a complete cartridge just trying to get a few stripes out!! prime clean clean prime etc etc sad.gif
not just epson and drying heads my once great A3 printer now lies shattered in the garden awaiting disposal its not supported under XP and only worked at low resolution ,i got fed up with it shenanigans and chucked it out the window, despite a huge number of people asking for a dedicated XP driver on the HP website HP didnt want to support it mad.gif
beware multi function devices (printer scanner copier doodas) piles of them in dumps where one bit dies so you chuck it all away almost as many as those crummy dyson hoovers

I'm hoping for a computer rebuild/upgrade in the summer, (are you reading this son?) but am currently still running Win98, there's now a restricted amount of stuff that runs with 98 and the more expensive printer which I would have preferred was one item that wouldn't. I'll probably still buy one when the PC is done, but for £30 this one is virtually a disposable item, (did I mention how good the pics were?). biggrin.gif

With regard to your A3 garden ornament/printer could you not keep an older version of Windows on a separate hard drive and run it with that, or wouldn't that work? unsure.gif

Ayjay, I used a guy on ebay and now privately to supply a Continuous ink system. This is for a HP 1100 Business machine and it cost me £40 for the cartridges and inks and another £30 for the same for an epson all in one which should I reckon give me around half a dozen refills. If you want his address etc drop me a line. Apart from the £1 shops! (JAMMY BUGGER!!) This is the next best thing!!!
