Ok I've rebuilt the trailer for my new boat and would prefer to tow the boat with the outboard attached. Its only a 10hp, 38kg but am concerned about towing the boat with the outboard up. Does anyone use transom savers and if so where do you get them in the uk?

I also know of some guys who drop the engine onto a piece of wood, which jams in place, and keeps the engine clear of the road.. I have only ever seen the savers once, and to be honest, they looked a bit awkward to use...unclip this, unclip that...Is your boat Tiller steered? or Wheel??..if its Tiller, wouldnt it be easier for you to take the engine off while towing/? Cheers mate.. -------------------- In sleep every dog dreams of food, and I, a fisherman, dream of fish..

Hi Bobj, that would be it, now find one on a UK web site!
Norrie Ive got tiller steering but was hoping that it would also be a back saver! as my outboard is heavy. Also it means the seats have to go down in the car and I can then only take 1 passenger. The wooden block might work I'll have a look at that. The trouble is my trailer is faily low and the outboard would have to be right up to avoid grounding on the local speed bumps, I dont think I trust the stay on its own as it doesnt lock. I think the Cabelas transom savers clip to the roller, then are spring loaded against the outboard leg so shouldnt be hard to fit. I can go to 7 shops in Mackay and get any number of outboard motor supports... My son bought one in Mackay and transported his 4.35 metre tinny and 50 hp outboard 2850 km to Darwin at speeds of around 130kmh and no problems with the cheapie support. -------------------- ![]() Cheers, Bobj. |
