I only really pleasure fish in all honesty but I have a whole carp set up that I don't actually get along with now, I did at the time of buying them though.
what I need are a couple of rods along the lines of what was mentioned in Andrew's thread. What I need though is for them to cope with the odd carp over 20lb (my club waters have a few or so of these in a couple of their lakes ). I don't generally fish far out but would like the option of casting small pva bags out and perhaps the small fox method feeders. Would the Wychwoods cope with this?
Also I have a couple of Okuma Interceptors (2 down from the largest), would these be too big and not balance with these slimmer and lesser t/c rods?

Ideally I'd get a couple before the beginning of the season, the trouble is most of the tackle shops near me have carp after carp rod or match rods, nothing in between.

So guys help me out smile.gif

My guess is you are looking for a barbel rod of about 1.5 to 1.75 test curve that can do a range of things you want something like this ......

Anytime James biggrin.gif I brought some Wychwood Specimen Barbel Rod but haven't used them yet and I am really happy with it so far. I am sure it will be capable for your fishing needs! biggrin.gif

I've had a look at the Shimano in a local shop just now and it looks very nice. I'm also off to look at a Ron Thompson B52 specialist rod which is rediculous value for money.

I will also try and look at the Wychwood Andrew smile.gif
If I don't get it we'll compare our new outfits at the fish-in in July biggrin.gif

What reels are you going to use Andrew?

biggrin.gif James, I don't know what reels to use James it is a toss up between my old Mitchell 300C or the Shimano 8010 baitrunners!

Well I did something stupid today and spent silly money sad.gif
I popped in and had a look at the Wychwood and also the Ron Thompson B52 barbel rods. The Wychwood was nice, the B52in my opinion felt better and also had a few tips and so was better value. In the end though I played with the Greys Prodigy Specimen and decided on the Prodigy, it has a 1.5 t/c top and 2 t/c top and I bought that. I also sold my old Carp rods, along with my old landing net and picked up a new Prologic landing net which felt much more sturdier and the handle broke down into 3 pieces, great biggrin.gif
I am due to pick up another Prodigy next week but I might just stick with the one and use my John Wilson Avon System rod with the avon tip.

On the subject of my John Wilson Avon system, does anyone know the t/c of it with the avon tip in?

If its the John wilson barbel system you have then it is 1 3/4lb.
If its the original john wilson quiver then I think its 1 1/4lb.

I know Jeepster, I feel it's the sort of rod I will keep forever (the lifetime warranty helps biggrin.gif ). All I need to do now is actually catch a fish on it tongue.gif

Anthony, it's the original jw quiver and you are right it's 1 1/4lb so thanks for that. It would help if I actually bothered to look on the rod itself biggrin.gif
