Have read through this, and it is noteworthy that all sorts of interests are being represented, but not very much on angling.

I have the distinct impression that a quango is being given sweeping powers, and this is being railroaded through.

Three MPs from Norfolk
Richard Bacon, Conservative, South Norfolk
Keith Simpson, Conservative, Central Norfolk
and Norman Lamb, Liberal Democrat, North Norfolk
have been concerned with putting in blocking motions to give more time for debate, and to, in their own words
QUOTE
force the unelected and otherwise unaccountable Broads Authority to enter into public consultation

This would seem to be in response to disquiet expressed by a variety of their constituents.

I would like to hear the views of our Norfolk anglers on this - the future of Broadland angling appears to be at risk here.

the interest of anglers maybe contained in the two sections shown in the Broads Authority blurb shown on Wikipedia

IE
"promote the enjoyment of the Broads by the public"

"have regard for the economic and social interests of those who live or work in the Broads"

I suppose that could be said to include Angling, but it would be nice to see Anglers mentioned by name

Angling is under threat by the Bill, anglers being able to roam as they wish, for example, is directly threatened by the Bill. Unfortunately the angling representatives on the Broads Authority's Forum have yet to wake up and take their blinkers off!

Have you any opportunity to disturb their slumbers, Peter?

I rarely visit Norfolk these days, but this looks like the thin end of an enormous wedge.

Having read through the bill, there seems a lot of MPC in it.

I sit with the blinkered gentlemen on the Broads Angling Strategy Group committee. Tis like talking to a brick wall! Their belief is that compromise is better than confrontation. Personally I am convinced that we stand to loose a great deal. Still, my petition to the House of Lords is under way, both as a yachtsman and an angler and stressing the right to navigate and fish tidal waters under the terms of Magna Carta.

Peter, do you know where the holiday businesses such as Hoseasons stand on this issue?
Any restrictions on angling and access must hit them, and I would have thought that they would have some 'clout' in the area.

John.

Peter,

The translation of Magna Carta is available to read at:

(It's not that long)

Which bit are you using to support your argument?

Gozzer, re Hoseasons, I know their rep on the Broads Authority and is not their wish to be political.
