I prefer midday. But if your going Carp fishing they feed on the top mainly in late evening. I've always caught tench on the bottom around midday to late evening.

Best results are usually obtained by fishing out of direct sunlight. early morning (dawn) or late evening (sunset) being the best times. However if it is a dull, overcast day you will find that Tench will bite well then.

on the odd occasion if you can stay awake fish from one midday to the next especially in summer. you will get some surprises as a lot of fish will feed at night just ask the carp lads how many big bream and tench they catch

I've just about abandoned all-day trips to my local fisheries. I've had quite a bit of success between seven and nine in the morning (then home to warm up and eat a full cooked breakfast), but even better is the 'magic hour', between 4.15 and 5.15pm. Who needs to sit, freezing to death through the middle of the day, when the wind is making waves you could almost surf on? It's when the wind drops that the fish seem to start feeding.

Short late evening trips is the best time for me, on dawn to dusk stillwater commercials.

The all dayers have had enough by tea time, having got there early to get the "best" swims. They then empty the left over maggots, sweetcorn, etc. into the margins when they leave, and the fish come in for their evening feed as the light fades and the bankside disturbance lessens. You've got the place to yourself, and only need to drop a big bait in the margins and watch the float sail away smile.gif .

This even works in the last hour or so of a winter afternoon.

It's also nice to know that the fishing should get better as the trip continues, rather than the fishing probably getting worst on an early morning trip. Plus you don't have to get up early smile.gif .

2 in the afternoon for some reason. It's a bit loose that time but over the years, it seems to have become the time when things could hot up, regardless of the time of year.

Just pre dawn to just after dawn...tench on carp lakes (no I dunno why either), carp
Just as the sun is about 10-15 degrees to the water.. rudd/roach come up for early feed on still waters, not so much on rivers; chub are very active on rivers, predators follow on behind.

Light fades, again just about 10-15 degrees to the water, back come the rudd/roach, tench on rivers, Carp when they are interested in the surface.
Light starting to go , bream move out of the deeps.

AND it is so much quieter at these times.

Best wishes
