Is there a law as to how much can be paid in pennies, can such a payment be refused by law?

It should be noted that there are no notes that are legal tender in Scotland. The Scottish notes are not legal tender, and the only English notes that used to be were the £1 notes. So at present it is only coins that are legal tender in Scotland. In addition although not listed on the link from Leon the £5 coins which you occassionally see are also legal tender (at least in Scotland).

I knew there were limits, but I didn't realise it was 20p for coppers! I thought it would be a lot higher.

I remember my first fly fishing trip to Scotland - Lairg - being quoted the price of the accommodation in guineas And the landlord of the pub in Bethesda who never went decimal being so suprised I was able to counter his £3-7-6p with, "Here's a fiver that'll be £1-12-6p change please.' He gave us the round for free. Ah happy days Len |
