Never worry about the success, or lack of it of others. There might not be a good angler amongst 'em. All the fish might be in your corner!

He didn't ask how long Chesters, just what duration! There is a subtle difference!

Never ask Chesters what he is on. The answer might be incriminating. There is always an aromatic cloud permeating from under his aged Efgeeco bivvy.

If I'd made the effort to travel somewhere new, I'd sit it out until dark, without a bite, (as I often do). I wouldn't go back, unless armed with some new information that made me feel sure I'd have more success. It has nothing to do with other anglers catching or not: often it is worse to blank when other people do catch fish. I'm a sociable sort of bloke, so I'd always go and ask another angler what he was using (and I'd hope not to get 'keep away from my effing pole, it cost a effing fortune!' as I recently had!!)
