Help!!!,I desperatly need a new tench float rod,i"ve looked at the classic drennan model which is nice but at a 140 quid a bit to pricey for me.I"m aware there are others on the market suitable for what i need but to be honest with such a choice its really doing my head in!!!!If i could get my choice down to a couple i"ll be more than happy!!!I"m prepared to pay around 100quid but no more.So was wondering what anglers net members use?..thanks.

Into "grumpy old git" mode --

There is no such thing as a "tench rod".

What you need is a rod suitable for hard-fighting fish in the 4-8lb range.

A 1.25 or 1.5 tc Avon Rod with multi tips will do the trick, and £100 ought to cover that easily. It'll also be useful for all sorts of fishing (unlike a 'specialist' light 'carp' rod) - barbel, chub, bream, light carping etc.

It's the manufacturers that want us all to think that fishing is rocket-science and that you need a particular rod for a particular species. What next, a "dace rod" ??

Not digging at you, yog, just at the owerwhelming cult of advertising-driven consumerism that keep us all buyin buyin buyin.

have to agree with the previous re commercialism sad.gif
however i have a couple of tri-cast big pit bream/tench rods that i bought 7 or 8 years ago, if still available and within your budget you could do a lot worse

lol!!!,,i take your point glenn, and totally agree, what i should have said was i require a rod suitable for FLOAT FISHING FOR TENCH!!!.as not all beefed up rods are suitable for float fishing.

I depends how you fish for your tench and how big they are. If you are fishing at range carp style you may need up to 2lb tc rods. However if you're just float fishing for smaller tench less than 6lb a stepped up match rod may be better!

Personally I like the daiwa range. I use 1.5 tc rods for carp style fishing and a 1.25 tc for float fishing.

You may consider:
The specialist
The Pro Specialist
or the Avon ‘Tradition’ & ‘Advanced’

I purchased a Barbel XP rod by Chubb a year ago, and couldn't agree more. I use it for all types of fishing. It's my first choice cos it's a great rod.

I'll be passing through Nottingham on Saturday and could pop into Used Tackle for you and pick up a £20 cheapo to try out, you would still have £80 for a John Wilson Avon if you didn't like it! Alternatively I could come tench fishing down your way and you could try mine.

Could I ask what rod you are suggesting from Used Tackle? May be interested in having a trip there as i may be in the market for a cheap but good float rod.

Regards,
Hugh
