Can you guys help? I am going to buy a 50" HD television for Brenda, as she can see what's going on with that size. She was in a shop the other day and she was amazed at what she could see.
I have heard that plasma gets HOT (no good for the animals) but the picture is better.

LCD is more expensive!

my ancient plasma monitor gets very hot but not hot enough to burn you ,you can though start sweating typing away rubbish as i do biggrin.gif
your best bet is to have a stroll round seeing how hot they get ,most retailers tv's are on all day so a good place to find out.
my monitor gets so hot its fitted with four fans ohmy.gif

remember if you want to get HD (rather than just a large picture) then everything else needs to be HD as well ,keep away from 720p if you can real HD is 1080i ,720p is being sold everywhere cut price to get rid of it as its obselete making room for real HD stuff ,if you just want a large picture though theres bargains about so haggle mentioning its old fashioned

Ive got a 42 inch plasma its four years old and old hat now But going strong, Lcd s are fine and have exelent definition if you look at them striaght on, the picture starts degrading quickly as soon as you sit at an angle, the heat given off of a plasma is not an issue realy, wall mount it! unless you keep fruit Bats as pets it will be well out of the way of dogs and cats, one other thing A 52 inch monitor will be huge once you get it home and out of the showroom you realy need to be a least 10 feet from a telly that big is your room wide enough to get far enough away from it ? My fouty two inch strained my eyes a bit for the first few days untill I got used to it it was like sitting in the frount row of the pictures.

One other thought they are HEAVY pay the extra to get it installed Good luck!

Cheers FB - I realise that it's going to be massive - but with her eyes, she has been told that she must use what tiny bit of vision she has before she loses it alltogether.

LG are a good make and well priced I havent had any of thier kit let me down as yet.

Also having the streets largest telly always seems to make the boys
turn up to see how you are, Durring the Footie,Grand national, big Fight, world cup rugby and any bloke type film that may involve Hally Barry running around in her under Crackers, dont panic they usauly turn up with Beer, should this not be conveniant Keep a recording of the Corination street theme tune and credits handy to play the thought of Gails chinless face gurning at you in 52 inches clears the house in 10 nseconds flat should you need to get rid of them, down side is they tend to take the beer with them. thumbs.gif

Just got a samsung PS50Q96HD PDB - Got it for £750.00 fitted as a mate works for Curries.
WOW!!!! Brenda is saying "look, look!" as she is seeing things she hasn't seen for about 10 years!
FB - It IS big but with bad eyesight and Brenda's virtual blindness, it is going to make a big difference in our lives!

thank the gods you got the one with PDB on the end ,without it its a crummy low spec version
check it is the 1080 version though wink.gif i wouldnt trust dixons or curry's (same company) to know anything about their goods nor the staff either ,only pc world comes worse in the tech department.

i still see peple loading big tellies into their cars thinking they have a bargain from sainsbury but at the moment they dont stock real HD tellies only 720p versions ,it doesnt say what it is on the huge box and only looking very hard at the small sales card (usually fallen over) in even tinier writing does it say its 720p ,i think because it has HD splashed all over the place they think there is only one version ,theres a lot of shortly very unhappy buyers out there and no doupt a plentifull supply of them at the dump in a few months as they realise not all HD tvs are equal biggrin.gif

KB, I have just bought a 42" Samsung plasma and I can't fault it. It looked massive when we first got it but TBH it just looks normal now.
