At last, a red letter day!
Me and Bill decided we'd target the smoothhounds down at Blackpool Armed with a load of cracklers/crinklies (cheers wayne) and peelers me and MrBay had gathered (cheers paul) we launched at 8.45am (cheers Steve Winter!) I won't mention the fact that 'Up Yours' arrived at the slip a good 20 minutes after us...yet still managed to launch before us!! I won't mention it 'cos Gary Young's built like a Silverback and twice as ugly......just like his crew for the day! Anyway, that was the only downer of the day as we steamed off towards our chosen destination..........a much closely guarded secret destination, passed down from father to (first born only) sons for generations........otherwise known as (Shhhhh !! Whisper it!! ) .....Blackpool We arrived one and a half hours before low and dropped the pin in and cast out more in hope than expectation ![]() Very next cast resulted in our target species......... ![]() Next cast, as soon as the bait hit the water............. ![]() Then Bill........... ![]() It was unbelievable.......as soon as the baits hit the water the fish were on, making screaming runs with the reels disengaged on ratchet. Mainly smoothhounds with the occasional tope for good measure. It was HECTIC.......30 fish in 2 hours. We didn't have time to set up the second rods for the first half hour, and pictures were out of the question most of the time.... We still managed a few piccies when the fish allowed us........ ![]() ![]() ![]() And the odd video..... ![]() Remarkably the fish continued to come thick and fast even over slack water............. ![]() ![]() ![]() Some really good specimens were coming aboard, fish to 15lb..... ![]() ![]() After low water had come and gone and the flood started, the fishing slowed down a bit for some reason ??? instead of a fish a cast, we were only managing a fish every other cast....but they were better quality smoothies.... ![]() The Starry smoothhounds put up a terrific fight, really hard fighting and they stay down deep for ages...... I burnt the clutch out on one of my reels so, for a bit of fun, I decided to set up my bass spinning rod for the hounds........ ![]() Bloody good fun, a fish of around 12lb........ ![]() We were knackered by now......we worked it out we'd had around 500lb of fish in the session!! Superb!! Steaming back to base, we noticed a commotion amongst some gulls near King Scar, so we went over for a nosey and discovered a decomposing porpoise by the looks of it........... ![]() When we got back to Morecambe, the other boats had had good days too.....Steve's lad Ben had a personal best bass of 6lb! ![]() A brilliant day, let's hope the match next week is as good -------------------- |

I just love to see pictures of people proud that they caught some fish. Looks like you had a top day. Well done mate a great report and great photos. Brilliant to see the youngster getting in on the action too. Bet the bass tasted great.
