Why is it that so many UK course angling clubs seem to have such a negative attitude towards fishing from boats, many clubs around here have a 'No boatfishing' rule.
I can understand it on small-medium size stillwaters but why not allow boatfishing on the larger waters they control, or the miles of virtually unfished (many unfishable from the bank) rivers.

Maybe it's just around here in the Derbys/Notts area that this rule seems common, or is it a national thing ?

Certainly isn't that way on the Broads. Largely no boats means no fishing.

Yes, the Broads and the Lake District are probably the exceptions (maybe the Scottish Lochs too) but around the midlands it seems quite a task to find many 'legal' places to boatfish.
We fish a few stretches of the Trent and get away with it, but according to the club rules it's not allowed.
There are some nice large stillwaters and res's in the area but are all strictly no go with regard to fishing from a boat.
