Lets face it, there's one simple way to reduce the water extraction from our rivers, and that is to stop the ridiculous habit of baths and showers. Shakespeare didn't do, Newton didn't do it, so why should we? This is one area, I suspect, where the bivvy brigade have a lot to teach the rest of us.

Should work but not a really quick fix since the drop in birth rate will require some time to have a noticible effect on the overall population.

But the bivvy brigade are camped out, for months at a time, on the flood plain. This prevents rain entering the watercourse in a naturel manner and allows the ground to dry out beneath the bivvy.

They're also crapping and peeing in the bushes, saving even more gallons being flushed down the loo.
We owe these people a great debt.

What you're saying, I think, is that unwashed anglers won't so easily attract mates! This may be true in USA where many male anglers are in a lower state of evolution than in UK - still in the 'domestic man' phase, while we have moved on to the 'wild man' phase.

Actually, I must be honest, not all UK anglers - just me, the carpies, and one or two others. Our male odours waft around the countryside and have the same effect on women as Ultrabite has on fish!It drives the females crazy! And as to a negative effect on procreation, once again you have only to walk past a few carpies' bivvies to know that this is not the case.
