Any tips on getting a decent photo of me and my prize catches when I'm fishing on my own. I have a mini tripod for my digi camera but I can never seen to frame the shot very well.

I'm sure I had an article on it here somewhere.
The key would be to take some idiot shots first i.e. ones of you without a fish, posing as if you had one. -------------------- Treat yourself and support Anglers' Net...

i think one of your best bets is to set up your camera and tripod before you even start fishing. Frame up your shot as you want it and place something on the floor so that you know where to kneel to be in the right place.

Hello,
Using a tripod is not the best way, one the ground is always uneven and its heavy to carry. Get yourself a bank stick camera adaptor, using an adjustable bank stick is better and no extra kit to carry. Once you have decide were you are going to take the shots from set up your bank stick at the required height and frame the shot with your camera attached, use your chair or something large to focus on and then set the camera to fixed focus. Then all you have to do once you have caught your specimen, just hit the self timer say set at 10 seconds and present yourself in place with the fish, do not forget to smile. -------------------- Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

also choose a clutter free area of your swim. there is nothing worse than having all manner of tackle laying around in the background

If your camera doesn't have a revolving screen so that you see yourself in self-portraits I'd suggest an air release and adaptor. Here's my field test of the Kaiser version: http://www.anglersnet.co.uk/Tackle-And-Bai...ews/kaiser.html
These days many Canon compacts not only have a revolving screen, but they also have a facility to vary the self-timer delay anything up to 30 seconds, and then take up to 10 pics so that you haven't got to return to the camera. I usually set mine for 10 seconds delay and 6 pics. By using the flash (that I prefer anyway in daylight for trophy shots) the time between shots is slowed down somewhat and I have plenty of time to turn the fish to get pics of both sides. I set my camera up in advance on a tripod facing my unhooking mat. I then sit on the mat as if I were holding a fish and look into the screen to ensure I'm framed properly. Then when I photo a fish I sit in the same place and give a last second look at the screen to check I'm framed properly. A final tip is to wear a head torch at night as this shows up nicely on the screen. -------------------- Classic Fishing Books www.classicfishingbooks.co.uk 100s of fishing books for sale/wanted + reviews

Sorry to bring this thread up again but I have been using this bracket from here
http://www.firstcall-photographic.co.uk/pr...ct-cameras/115/ for my self shot picture especially for the fishing. It is the Firstcall Cable Release Adaptor Bracket which I brought a couple years ago when I also purchase the Cannon PowerShot A620 -------------------- Growing old is inevitable but growing up is optional
