I bought a smartcast last year 2nd hand off ebay, thr RF10 model, and very good it has been too, despite its limitations in range etc….BUT, when I tried to use it last night , it displayed the signal “waiting for response from sender unit” (or words very similar). Now this usually occurs while the wee orange “sender” isn’t yet in the water and it starts to work thereafter. Not now. I believe this wee orange unit has a limited lifespan, and this may now have been reached. Would this be an accurate assessment ? If so , where can I get a replacement , and how much are they ? Is it a “straight swap” , ie with no tweaking of freaquencies etc ? Many thanks in anticipation for your help, Keith.

If you are going to cough up the wedge for a new Transducer you may aswel have a go at this http://www.fishingmagic.com/news/article.a...05364930556&v=3

i am certain i have read somewhere that you can change the battery, just cant find it anywhere, it will be the same as the above minus the mods, have look inside you have got nothing to lose if you have got to buy another anyway !!!

It certainly looks as though the battery in the transducer (the bit that you cast out) has died. As far as I know you can't replace the battery, you have to buy a new transducer.

All UK models work on the same frequency so any supplier selling UK models rather than grey imports will be able to help you. As a guide the UK transducers are orange, whereas the US ones (that are illegal in the UK) work on a different frequency and are yellow/green.

Steve, i spoke to a mate from the DTI before buying my HB from the states, he told me it is way to small to cause any problems with its signal so as far as they are concerned it isn't illegal or a problem owning one.

I own a smartcast and can confirm that you eill need to purchase a new transducer. Many tackle shops stock them, leslies of luton will have them in stock.
I also saw an article on modifying the transducer to improve range and form that i suspect it would be possible to change the battery, if its stopped working then theres no harm in cracking it open to invstigate.

There is no need to buy a new transducer, it can have the battery changed.
A mate of my son has the transducer shooting through the hull of a small radio controlled boat and it has a range of around 100yards mounted in the boat.

There must be instructions on how to do it on the web.

By the way the battery is a watch battery type!
