What is the REAL question there Frodo? Max Composites may be a cheap brand now, but what if that rod catches a "record" fish, will "Max Composites" become "THE" rod to own?

The only way you or your friend will know for sure, is if in the end run, he enjoys using the rod and catches a few fish.

I have 4 rods which cost me £125 for a blank (tube) 8 years ago. I also have a rod which cost me £70 (made up), which I bought 12 years ago. I've caught more fish with the £70 rod(which you can still buy new for about the same price), than I've had with the expensive rods.

I know there is a major company in this country, which sells their rods at about £125, but the blanks actually cost almost £11 (the rings are added in this country, which no doubt adds to the final sale price).

So, really, the cost can be all over the place.

What you have to remember is, The fish don't know what rod you are using. It's only the angler who worries about the price.

If you're worried that paying too little may not get you a good rod, why not get one from Max Ripp-Off Rods Limited ... then you'll be sure to catch ... maybe only a cold, though .... through the nose which you have just paid biggrin.gif

DG

P.S. I think your mate's talking about a Conoflex
Max Carbon Composite rod, which go for up to 200 squids, full, new , retail for e.g. the 12 ft 9 inch 147 FS Max

I am not a great believer in fancy tackle or brand names, i buy what i need as cheap as possible, and still catch more than some people who i class as tackle tarts. I have just come back from Cornwall where i seen rods (Devils Stick) at £5.99. I didnt buy any, as i have rods coming out of my ears, i still say the most important pieces of your tackle are the last 8 inches or so and the bit between your ears.

I think its a big one

I think you're on a wind-up! Got to be an idle boast and a big exaggeration to imply that you've got more than 8 inches of tackle!
