Being the eternal optimist I bid the minimum £9.99 for, don't know if I can admit this, a bivvy. Nice posh advert saying bid now, NO RESERVE! So I bid, and no one else did! Whoopee! But whilst there was no reserve, I hadn't met the minumum bid. Minimum bid? Isn't that another word for reserve? Bit naughty sad.gif .

Almost any auction has an 'opening bid', which should have been stated. i.e. when you go to an auction, the auctioneer will always try to get as high an opening bid as he can.

Peter, is this eBay?

Whatever the site, have you been notified that you're the winning bidder? If so I imagine that the seller is in breach of the rules, and possibly even the law, if he doesn't complete the transaction. It's surely his lookout if he decided to save money by choosing not to pay a reserve fee.

Dear Peter,

I read your opening post whilst I sat eating my tea. I laughed so much I nearly choked myself!!

The humerous picture of you sitting at the bivvy door scowling all over your face is a picture few here would forget.

What on earth possessed you to buy this contraption in the first place?? Please tell me it was simply to make a few bob.

Still, if you intend on keeping it you'll have to drag that old crystal radio set along if you want to be "hip" amid the domes.

You're so funny.

Regards,

Lee.

It was on the Anglers Net Auction! The seller eventually e-mailed me and offered it me for £30.00. Strangely I didn't get the usual notifications that the site issues. Not impressed!

Lee, for a tenner it would have been great for the kids! I suffer from accute claustrophobia when fishing. Tents are for sleeping in, not fishing in, unless you are a great big softy smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif .

I must admit I too was thrown by the way the AN auction works at first as it's different to those like eBay etc that I was familiar with. However, whilst I still didn't fully understand it, I did get used to it in practice. Mind you I've forgotten how it does work now!

As I posted earlier the key as to whether the bid has succeeded in winning the auction is a winning bidder notification. Presumably, this is like the hammer falling in a saleroom auction.

Gottim! All is now revealed!!!!!

Peter really WOULD like to be a bivvy boy - but he's a'feard!

I knew it, I just knew it.

Luckily, I have a simple cure. Peter, all you need to do is set up your bedchair very near the bivvy door, so you can sleep with just your head poking outside. Voy-lar - no clostra-wossname!

Now, with that out of the way, you can enjoy the myriad delights of overnighting. Sadly, you'll have a job to see your telly with your head sticking out of the bivvy door, but you can't have everything, eh?

No, don't thank me....no really....
