Nothing that I can think of other than the description 'match' rod having an air of superiority about it. I've got a pair of shakespeare match rods....I use them for float fishing. Haven't fished a match since I was 12 years old.

quiver rod / feeder rod / ledger rod float rod / match rod / waggler rod Avon rod / barbel rod / specialist rod carp rod / pike rod / specimen rod then there are the power versions etc etc etc -------------------- RUDD

Thanks for that! Now all I have to do is get some line and wait until opening day... Rod came in yesterday and my first centrepin arrived earlier in the week. Can't wait to use it.
