Courtesy of the Predator Group Forum I reckon this looks a very interesting gadget and website.
Have a look at http://yakida.co.uk/fishfinders.html and see what you think

Handy for fishing off a boat I reckon. Not much use for bank fishing though.

Putting it on the end of a stick and pointing it like a side scanner would be pretty good. I hope so! I've ordered one with that in mind!! I'll keep it in my car, be useful on strange rivers that I meet up with on my travels.

Strangely enough, I have! Just one or two you understand. Wouldn't wish to come over as bragging, am sure that you understand that too!!!!!!!

Bit of a convoluted story on this one. The one that I bought became a birthday present, and from that day onwards it was used on a sailing boat as a depth sounder for a non angler. I then bought a second hand Lidl one from a forum member which worked perfectly well, did everything it said on the box, but now languishes on my daughters sailing boat, helping her avoid the dreaded Broadland shallows. Her partner was a carp angler at the time, and when Newt, in a super generous mood, offered his for free, I grabbed it for him. The partner gave up carping, so the finder went on the boat but mounting the transducer was a problem, so we swapped Newt's finder for the Lidl one which does the job just fine. And then, shortly after that, Argyll and myself had an intensive debate on the forum about using a standard transducer on its side as a side scanner. Regretfully I was never able to show Argyll that it did work as such. But the end result is that the cheapo lidl one still works, finds us the odd shoal of bream as we sail along, the birthday one, don't know. Divorce resulted in that boat, and finder I presume, being sold off. In the meantime another daughter has got married and her husband loves fishing, thus Newt's portable is either used off the bank, by him, or as a portable on a boat by me.
