Well I left home at around 5:30am friday morning, and set off on the rather long trek to Redmire, stopping off on the way to pick up Chris Plumb.

After a 4hour drive (interupted by a rather superb breakfast cooked for me by Chris) we arrived at the entrance. As we were not allowed on the pool until 1pm we had a little time to kill,

but Glenn and a couple of others were already there, Glenns excitment level was already way off the scale!

The drive down to the Pool itself was full of anticipation, and as soon as the convoy came to a halt at the bottom of the hill (about 1:01pm) everyone jumped out of the cars and rushed over for a first look at the pool.

you can just make out the punt of the far bank!

After a short walk around we met up on the dam wall, and drew for pegs. My name was third out, and I decided on the evening pitch, the fact that my car was parked almost right behind it had no bearing on the selection, which had of course been made after careful consideration of all the prevailing conditions!

At this point the kid in a sweetshop effect hit me full in the face, I just had to have a cast!
So I grabbed a rod and few bits out of the car and quickly tackled up a light carp rod with 'pin float, and put a couple of grains of sweetcorn on the size 10 hook. one careful cast later and the bait was in place, and the float cocked perfectly just on the edge of a huge bed of weed. This was it, I was finally fishing Redmire! Surely that float didn't just twitch ?

30 mins later the float twitched again, a couple of bubbles popped up next to it, and then it was gone, I struck, and after a quick scrap in the marginal weeds I had my first Redmire carp on the bank

All 3lb of it!

I'll let one of the other guys pick up the story from here, as that was really the highlight of my weekend, and almost exactly how I had dreamt it would happen - apart from the size of the fish smile.gif

For the record I ended up with 4 carp over the weekend, biggest of around 4lb!

I do think Glenn was rather taking liberties with history though!

More pictures - by the camera load no doubt - will be appearing here

Quite an emotional (or maybe that was just the wine and Champagne!) weekend in great company and on SUCH a famous water. The IAC have done some great fish-ins between us - it's gonna take something to top this!!!

I'll do a fuller report later in the week!

Looks like you had a really great weekend. My brother used to fish there many years ago, at the same time Chris had the british record. He has a really nice signed photo of Chris with his record fish.

Did anyone get visited by the ghost ghost ghost

Can't wait to see the rest of the pics & hear some more about the weekend.

The bigger fish were there OK, I saw several basking in the shallows, and one very large fish that crossed an open water patch in front of where I was float fishing. I suspect 10 anglers descending on the place at once, and the sheer amount of bankside movement going on (there was a get together going on in one swim or another pretty much the whole time!) tipped off the wiser older fish that we were after them! The guy on there the mid week session before us had recorded a 24lber in the log book.

And Lyn - I was in the haunted swim, no sign of any ghosts I'm afraid, just several inebriated anglers! I cleared up 3 empty wine bottles from my swim when packing up this morning, and I don't even drink the stuff :-)

I'm still on a high from the whole weekend, completely knackered but can't get to sleep!
