Wasn't this covered in the new Anglers Charter?
I wonder how they will square this with the RSPB when they introduce the new Birdwatchers charter next week!

Intially the RSPB were asking for a JUDICIAL review as well, according to the Salmon and Trout Association's spring newsletter which arrived today. The RSPB seem to have backed down from this and are concentrating on DEFRA.

If a reduction of Cormorants is against European Law, as RSPB claims, then a reduction of our wild indigenous river fish is also against European Law. It is the upper reaches of our rivers which suffer most from cormorants - they feast undisturbed, as few anglers fish there.

At least commercial fisheries have someone on the spot to take action against the Black Death.

Has it not occurred to the RSPB that excessive predation by cormorants on fish stocks of breeding size means less breeding fish, and therefore fewer fry for birds such as kingfishers and little terns?

One local RSPB reserve keeps boasting about its huge stock of cormorants on the one hand, and bewailing the population crash in breeding little terns on the other. They do not yet seem to have made the connection!

"RSPB scientists believe the science behind the government's revised cormorant decision is fundamentally flawed, resulting in a potentially serious underestimate of the impact of the cull on the UK's breeding cormorant population."

Well all i can say is ...Good
